Merry Consumeristmas

This sonic walk took place in and around Preston’s Fishergate Shopping Centre in 2008 to experiment with changing the perceived environment through Music.

Like soundtracks to films, a sound walk is a soundtrack that emotionally charges real life and transforms it by igniting the imagination. A cheerful shopping centre becomes a sinister place with warped holiday cheer , an escalator a descent of valkyries, a blue floor becomes a watery cave, liberation is found in the wide space of a train station.

The sound walk explores themes of anxiety, alienation and claustrophobia that the holiday season can create and offers a non- consumerist perspective on consumerism.
